Spring

How lovely are these colors? I took this about a month and a half ago, 4 hours south from where I live. they were so far ahead of where our flowers and trees were, its so crazy to think that just a few hours away, a difference of almost a complete season.
This is the amazingness of this work, so much out there, so different everywhere. On hard, bad days its nice to just think of this, and it really opens your eyes to how small out little problems are..really puts things into perspective!
And there's nothing like tulips in the spring.

Ok,
to the black hole out there, or where ever this stuff goes..I am making a change. I live in a small city, with small people. So I have to do something to make life..interesting?
I am going to make a project for myself, I miss taking pictures, so that's what I'm going to do..
Pictures of what you may ask? Well my dear black hole, of anything!
Since school has finished for the summer, this is going to be something I'm going to do to take up some time, and do some well needed exploring!
Let the picture taking commence!

late winter snooze

This time of year is so boring! There's nothing really going on (if you're not into the SuperBowl, which I am not), the weather is mostly gloomy and grey, and it's still a few weeks until midterm break.
Not much interesting has been going on in this little city, hence the lack of updates..
What is new is I have decided to give twitter a try..I'm not sure I completely understand the concept, but I have a professor that says some pretty kooky things and am looking for a different world to put those random things out there, FB is feeling a little too predictable! (@ElsLumley)
My BFF and I want to go on a trip in the summer, and I have not a clue where I want to go - a critera somewhere different and fun, but not too expensive leaves a wold of options and possibilities! ahh!
I have some things on the calendar coming up, so more interesting updates coming..promise!

Holy snow!

So last week was a snow day(day off school because of snow...). For most, but not me haha..evil university people making me walk through that mess. it was perfect temperature though, and when the storm passed it showed just why I can't love away from snow for extended periods of time.winter is truly griseofulvin only people could learn go appreciate it and not compliant. Without it we wouldn't have skiing, outdoor skating rinks, snowmen, snow angels(still have to do one..) And a greater appreciation for warm weather especially! Unfortunately yesterday was an ice day for  other stereotactic the pretty look has gone. Here's hoping for more gorgeous snow!

ZzZzZzZz....

Still 2 weeks after the Christmas holidays, and I am still exhausted! No time to catch up on sleep/rest time when you are a working student, that's for sure! I have been having naps in the afternoons after school and before having to go to work, and I even was literally falling asleep in my Macro Economics class, so I skipped my next class to go home to have a longer sleep before going to work! Slowly but surely I will get there!
We had a snow day this past week, unfortunately I had no school to be cancelled, but it was still a nice day. Stayed in jammies ALL DAY LONG. It was fab.! I love pj days. we are finally getting sizeable snow banks finally, but it has been coldcoldcold in exchange!
I miss the days when you were a young child, and could go out in the snow playing and not care about the coldness - now I would have serious issues with doing that. I have to still do a snow angel this year, and have a lovely blank canvas in the front and back yard!
Will post pictures of my angel-making escapades!

come and gone

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, now back to school.
That near month went by so fast! Probably because I worked crazy lots.
This has been my first Christmas home in 2 years, so it was really nice to be home. We had a good, although it was quiet. Grandma went to visit one of my aunts out of town, so it was just me, mom and sister(and the cats of course!). We didn't have any snow, or any hope of getting snow in the run up to Christmas, but, of course, on Christmas eve snowflakes the size of golf balls were falling! It was a gorgeous night, perfectly cold, no wind, the snow was just falling from the sky. At Science North there's a live nativity put on every Christmas, so we went to see that and was made even better by the snow. And, of course, what could make it better but fireworks at the end of the live nativity? Lovely! Christmas morning was nice too, I love stockings, to me they are the best part of Christmas morning. Mom always makes yummy french toast with berry sauce, very yummy!
We also went to the National Ballet to see the Nutcracker - something I've been waiting almost my whole life to see. It was amazing, the costumes, the sets, the dancing, the music. Love it all so so much. I wish I could dance like the ballerinas could, they are the definition of grace to me.

I got some skis for Christmas, and unfortunately the snow on our local ski hill is going to be very poor with the weather being warm, then freezing cold..ould probably skate down the hill better than ski!

So does that mean going out west is the best option? Any excuse to get out there again, I'll take!

No more school!

...for a month at least! Exams, done. Glad to be off for a bit, but didn't find them too bad! I didn't get too stressed, which is good, but ate quite a bit of junk..I think that's my coping mechanism haha!
Just got back from visiting Miss. Liz in O-town! So nice to get together. It was a more chill weekend, but I think it was great that way. Pertying and whatnot is grand, but I think people who aren't really friends can't just chill and watch tv(or wedding shows galore!). We got some hypothetical wedding planning done, ring shopping included. FYI, Liz has very, very expensive taste, poor lad who ends up with that bill <3
So with having this time off, with just work keeping me busy, I'm thinking I'm going to try to get some baking done. Thing is, it's actually been years since I've done any Christmas baking! I would really love to master shortbread actually. Almost everyone appreciates a good piece of shortbread, and it's just so Christmas-y - especially with the red and green sugar on top! What other baking bits are the taste of Christmas?
I think every year I have a romantic picture of baking all thses delisious bits then eating them with tea and hot chocolate while watching classic Christmas movies (like Prancer, the Nutcracker Ballet and Charlie Browns Christmas, The Grinch too!) along with newer ones (like Love Actually and The Holiday). This picture never seems to happen, but hopefully this year I'll be able to complete it, or at least get some yummies made :)
One thing I do have an issue with still - serious lack of snow. I can't, and won't, get over it! Last Thursday we got 10-15 cms of snow in a few hours, it was so nice aaannnddd then it rained. dumb dumb rain. If I wanted snow to be gone by rain, I would have stayed in Ireland. For reals weather!
Wish me luck with the week of baking ahead, and if there's any essential bits that should be added to the cookie tray, do pass them on! I'll let y'all know how they turn out(maybe with pictures!)
